The course objective is to prepare the student to enter the world of commodities by giving the student technical knowledge and the grasp of terminology surrounding the various components of commodity trading – contracts, key documents, price risk management, operations/logistics, commodity finance, insurance – that will allow the student to be well conversant about the business on the first day of their job. The course’s catchphrase is to ‘think contractually’.
This Master of Laws (LLM) offers a practical knowledge of the specific rules, regulations and standards applied in commodity trading, as well as of the general international trade regulatory framework in which this trading takes place, such as the law of the international sale of goods, shipping, insurance, environmental protection, financing, arbitration and WTO.
The Master in Commodity Trading is a unique program in Europe. It focuses on the financing of resources, products and the trade flows of goods, and includes courses in relevant areas of economics such as credit analyses, financial instruments, and means of payment for different transactions. Shipping, legal aspects, the protection of goods and risk management are also addressed. The Master in Commodity Trading is special, because students follow academic classes while working in trading.
The SRIC Foundation (Swiss Research Institute on Commodities) is an international academic platform dedicated to the promotion of academic knowledge on commodities and bringing together all stakeholders of the commodities ecosystem.
